Table 42

Last night was the final night of CUTC. It’s a shame that it all had to come to an end, but we finished it off with a bang. :) Last night was the banquet, and we ended up, coincidentally, at Table 42. By this point I had already been adopted by the Simon Fraser University people because they are so much more fun than my group that slept every night while I was coming in at four in the morning…. Actually the group seemed to get progressively larger as more and more adoptees showed up. While some people (like me) went around and met a bunch of a new people, the SFU gang just had new people come to them. That’s pretty awesome.

After the banquet a few tables were moved and there was a makeshift crappy dance floor. I don’t know how long that went on for, and I went to go find out what the party preparations for the night were. I had a couple of drinks upstairs and then went to collect contact info from everybody, and filled up a few pages of names. Then I went to the cigar lounge in the hotel to find the SFU people and met a few of the CUTC organizers, who felt bad about Spolsky not coming to breakfast so they bought me a couple of drinks. I wasn’t in the mood for beer (indeed, I drank a lot of beer this week), so I had what Eric was having: double Jack and coke. I had two of those, and felt alright. Then I followed the SFU group to some club.

I don’t know which club it was, but it was awesome. We took over this lounging area downstairs and I got myself another double JD and coke (they’re really good!). Then it was time for shots. Being done with beer meant time to try the hard stuff. Now, I don’t usually drink hard liquor, but I figured I might as well go for it. So, with some six shots of JD under my belt, Noah, Jeff and I proceeded to the bar. After our third round of shots I started compiling a list. Here’s what we drank:

• Rocky Mountain Bearfucker
• Liquid Cocaine
• Prairie Fire
• Kamikaze
• Banana Popsicle
• B52
• Tequila
• Dr. Pepper
• Polar Bear

As you can see this is quite an insane amount of alcohol. (Total shot count: 12 + 6 shots of JD = 18 shots). We did actually have 2 rounds of 6/49’s. This is an “algorithmic” shot, you take the 6th bottle from the first row, the 4th bottle from the second row, and the 9th bottle from the third row, and mix it into one shot. The bartender refused to tell us what it was until after we took it. It turns out it was Banana Liquer, Amaretto, and Wild Turkey. It was so good that we had a second round. :) The Rocky Mountain Bearfucker is a strange concoction from out west… I can’t remember all the ingredients, but there was JD and 151 involved, but the bar didn’t have 151 so we used Bacardi instead (“Rocky Mountain Bearspooner” according to Noah). I can’t remember if it tasted good. I think it was nasty.

After the Liquid Cocaines we were joined by Jeff from Waterloo (that makes 2 Jeffs) who, as it turns out, speaks Japanese. So does the other Jeff (from SFU). So three random white guys standing at a bar doing shots and speaking Japanese. Crazy. I took the Dr. Pepper wrong. I was supposed to drop the shot of Amaretto into the beer. Instead I shot the Amaretto and chugged the beer. Oh well. :) It was an incredibly awesome time. We even danced until the place closed (??) I think it closed, I don’t remember so much after the shots.

We stumbled back to the hotel, and I was too drunk to even realize that Francois was in my bed… on top of the covers, but still. I mean, I even spoke to the guy, and had no idea he was in there. There was also late sleeping, and a great picture of me passed out with the list of shots on top of my face, but we need to wait for Ahmed to get home and upload those pics! It is good to be home though, I hope I can stay in touch with all the awesome people I met this week. :)
